About Selenity

Hello! So you’re interested in little ol’ me?Selenity Jade at Day Job

I’m Selenity Jade, which is an online persona of a very real person. That’s a picture of me at my super cool day job. (I’m the one with the purple hat.)

I’ve been Selenity Jade online for probably 18 years now. Nope, I am not exaggerating. In fact, I once got recognized in World of Warcraft around 10 years ago from someone who knew my name for my fanfiction stories. Even the Internet can be a small world sometimes!

I hope you’ll forgive me for using my online name. It’s way cooler than my legal name and I try to keep my online presence separate from my real life. In this case, I’m keeping business separate from personal.

I am in no way hiding my real name or my online persona from each other as over the last two decades, they’ve kind of merged. If anyone desperately wants my real name, I have included my personal Facebook account below.

About Me

I’m a coffee addict, avid (and obsessive) reader, planner nerd, barn and feral cat rescuer, gamer, and writer who happens to work with horses and gets paid crap for it. I love my day job though. Playing with racehorses every single morning is freaking amazing!

Barn Kittens

Barn kittens sleeping!

I’m an very anxious introvert who loves animals and they love me back. I’m often seen walking around the barns with a cat (or five) following me.

I claimed the name Selenity Jade in 1999, I believe, and I will always be Selenity Jade. In fact, I am the ONLY Selenity Jade on the net! I can always find it available on social media or as a username. It started as a penname and became who I am online.

I built my first website around 2001, and I had to learn HTML to do it. It was challenging, time-consuming and so fun.

I started book blogging about five years ago but a huge, dramatic change in my life caused that to be put on hold. My cousin currently runs my site, but I loved it. It let me continue writing except I was writing to help people discover new books instead of writing cheesy Dragonball Z romance fanfiction, no matter how popular it was.

In December 2018, I decided to stop screwing around and joined a platform called Wealthy Affiliate. I needed to learn how to create a successful blog in today’s online world and monetize it. After seeing some seriously expensive and scammy, pushy programs out there, this platform was a breath of fresh air.

Currently, I have three websites online. I work seven days a week at a stress-free job loving on racehorses. I basically throw money away rescuing cats and kittens around the barns who need help. I participate in the TNR of community cats. I volunteer for a local cat non-profit. I work online part-time, writing and blogging, basically building my business. I manage two Facebook pages and one Facebook group.

I read. I am single. A woman. A mama to two wonderful cats, three barn cats, and miltiple foster cats. I am in the southern United States, far from family and friends, but we speak often.  This is my life. I love it!

How I Discovered the Love of Reading.

I actually don’t remember a time when I wasn’t a reader. As far back as I can remember, I was always reading. I devoured school reading assignments in a day. But I never really felt that I was a reader until I picked up my very first series, The Baby-Sitters Club. I don’t even remember how old I was.

From there I read Judy Blume and other similar authors. Then strangely enough, I jumped straight into Piers Anthony’s Xanth series. From there it was a short step to other fantasy such as Mercedes Lackey’s Heralds of Valdemar series, Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series, and many others. I devoured Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, Melanie Rawn’s Dragon Prince series, and Kate Elliott’s Crown of Stars series.

I started to realize that all my favorite books and series contained one key element: romance. So I finally opened a romance novel but because I was such a fantasy lover I started with paranormal romances. After that, I devoured anything romance, which is my current reading addiction.

Of course, back then, I was reading paper books. I absolutely refused to get an e-reader at first. But life got in the way, and I found myself buying one when I changed my job. When one moves around the country in the course of her work with racehorses, one cannot keep relocating an entire library. Enter the e-reader.

Why Did I Create E-readers by Jade?

I was faced with a dilemma. With so many devices out there, which e-reader would be the best one for me? What does all the technical stuff really mean?

I made my choice. But I often see other people ask this question when first deciding to go electronic. Some people need a device easy on the eyes, some need cheaper, some want waterproof or no glare. Some people prefer a tablet. Most readers don’t understand all the technical specifications either and some of us don’t even care!

I decided to compare different devices and different brands and free reading apps, all on one site to make shopping for them so much easier. I include the occasional announcement, programs and services retailers offer so you all can get the most out of your digital reading experience.

I decided to do this without going into all the technical specifications. I just want it to do what I need. I don’t need the fastest speed or refresh page speed. Just as long as it WORKS, I am happy. And I found out that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Thus, E-readers by Jade was born.

Thanks so much for reading about me!

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below or email me. I  will be more than happy to help.

Lovies,

    Nice to ‘meet’ you Selenity!
What is it that you do with horses?
I love coffee and reading too, although my ‘to read’ pile is getting higher while I work on other things like blogging and life.
Hope this finds you well and in good spirits!

      Hi, Jerimy!

I actually work with racehorses, which is exciting and nerve-wracking. Thoroughbred horses specifically and the breed is a bit high strung, which is why they make good racehorses. Add in all the horses are extremely fit and on a high energy diet, you get some hyper horses especially if they’ve just come from the farm after a rest period. I love it though.

I’ll tell you a secret. My to read list grows every single day, even when I’m reading two books a day. Too many books on my list for six lifetimes! Lol.

Especially now that I’m blogging. Only read 2 this month so far.

      It’s nice to meet you!

Great post! Very well written. It really grabs the reader at the get-go. Cool name as well! Like all of your interests- coffee, reading, planning, rescuing and of course race horses. In fact your online name kind of sounds like a race horse’s. You have a kind heart Selenity Jade. Keep up the great work!

Aw, thank you. Thanks for visiting!

Hi there Selenity – nice to meet ya!

I’ve also had a love of reading since a young age…but I was kind of forced into it because I really had no other options to amuse myself with at the time. When I was younger my dad worked as a British dentist on an American air base in Saudi Arabia. This of course meant that we were dragged over there with him.

Well the TV was all Arab worship, and there was nothing much to do for the 9 months we were there…so my dad bought me a ton of fantasy novels.

I’ve never really looked back, and have read every day since!

Reading definitely saved my sanity! Happy to meet another reader! Thanks for visiting.

Hello Selenity. I’m so glad to hear about your passion on rescuing animals, especially cats. I used to do this at one point too and it was one of the happiest periods of my life.

I’m also into reading and was actually thinking about buying a quality e-reader, as I started reading e-books a lot more recently. What would be your top recommendation? I’m mostly interested in terms of quality, price matters less.

    1. Selenity says:

So far, my top recommendation is a Kindle Paperwhite. In terms of price and quality, it has proven to be the best, in my opinion. You can also get it in various upgrades if price isn’t a consideration. The Kindle Oasis is their premium model, which is definitely excellent, but I don’t find it worth it for the price unless you are a tech lover who absolutely adores the best product you can buy.:)

I am also suggesting the Amazon models because of the vastness of the Kindle store, and how often they run ebook sales, as well as their services. They’re a leader in the digital reading market for a reason.

Thanks so much for visiting and questions!

You and I sound so very much alike! I was an avid reader when I was a kid, and I still love reading, but unfortunately after a terrible fall from a racehorse, and injuring my head, reading is something I must do less of. But I still absolutely adore my racehorses! I am also an introvert, and love cats, though I am more of a dog person over cats these days.

Thank you so much for sharing a bit about yourself, it’s been great getting to know you a little.

    Cheers,

    Josie

Nice to meet you! There’s definitely nothing wrong with being a dog lover! Except if you’re anti-cat. Thanks for visiting!

Nice to meet you. I look forward to seeing your E- reader recommendations. I am currently a fan of the kindle and have both an e reader and use the app. I currently use the iPhone, but also like android. I tend to use kindle only because I have already purchased a number of books, so it kind of requires one to stick with one device. I also use Overdrive, so that I can download library books and audiobooks for free. I love that and encourage everyone to do that to support their local library system. I also love fantasy. I really like Brandon Sanderson. Have you read any of his stuff? I’m always on the lookout for books with strong female leads- any suggestions? Look forward to reading more of your blog .

Thanks for visiting and nice to meet you! I have read a lot of fantasy, but not Brandon Sanderson. I have definitely heard of him though and he’s on my to read list. I was reading Robert Jordan and such. Thanks for visiting!
